MOS Membership
Membership
Section 1. The membership shall be divided into five classes:
- Charter
- Active
- Honorary
- Provisional
- Emeritus
- Resident
- Affiliate
Charter Members
Section 2. Charter Members are those present at the original
organizational meeting
in 1958 or who were in active practice of
orthopaedic surgery at the time.
Active Members
Section 3. Active Members shall be (1) the Charter Members of this
Society and
(2) graduates in medicine who are registered in the
State of Mississippi and members
in good standing of their County
and State Medical Societies, who have completed an approved
orthopaedic residency and shall actively limit his practice to
orthopaedic Surgery prior to application for membership after May 6,
1979.
Honorary Members
Section 4. Honorary Members shall be those who have made an
outstanding contribution to the advancement of the science and
practice of orthopaedic surgery and are, or have been, actively
engaged in the scientific development of the work. They shall not
pay dues, nor shall they vote or hold office.
Provisional Members
Section 5. Provisional Members shall be those who have completed an
orthopaedic surgery residency program which is approved by The
American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and who practice full-time
orthopaedic surgery in the state of Mississippi. Provisional
membership is effective for a period of four years. Provisional
Members shall be voted on for Active Membership after being
certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Emeritus Members
Section 6. Emeritus Members shall be those who have previously been
Active Members of the Society who have retired from practice. They
shall enjoy the privileges of the Society, but shall neither pay
dues nor hold office.
Resident
Resident Members shall be those who are residents of the State of Mississippi and are currently enrolled, in good standing, in an orthopaedic residency program approved by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. They shall enjoy the privileges of the Society, but shall neither pay dues, vote, nor hold office.
Affiliate
Affiliate Members shall be those physicians certified by a Member Board of the American Board of Medical Specialties, other than the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, whose practice is affiliated with the practice of orthopaedics. They shall enjoy the privileges of the Society and pay full dues but shall neither vote nor hold office.
